CO2 LASER VAGINAL TIGHTENING:
- Good for every woman including breast cancer survivors with bothersome symptoms

- Treatment consists of 3-5 sessions, monthly, followed by a "touch-up" once a year
For many women, childbirth, age and hormonal changes can cause many unpleasant vaginal and/or urinary issues. Fractional CO2 laser vaginal therapy is a quick non-hormonal, minimally invasive in office procedure used to restore vaginal tissue and overall vaginal health by stimulating the body to heal itself. This technology has been utilized in Europe and Asia for more than 5 years, and a wealth of data has accumulated verifying its effects and success.
If you are suffering from vaginal symptoms such as dryness, itching, irritation, soreness, pain with intercourse, recurrent bacterial vaginosis or urinary symptoms such as frequent or recurring UTIs, urinary incontinence, urinary urgency, or leaking with coughing, sneezing, jumping, then you may be a candidate for CO2 laser treatment. Regardless of whether your symptoms are childbirth or age-related including menopause, CO2 laser rejuvenation has been studied and shown to provide significant improvement of these symptoms with minimal discomfort and quick treatment time. Now you can go back to enjoying a healthy, happy lifestyle without feeling self-conscious anymore.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Using a unique vaginal probe, laser energy is delivered safely to the full circumference of the vagina to promote collagen production and remodeling. This is the same laser energy used in the performance of Co2 Fractional skin tightening on the face, but with a different hand piece. CO2 laser uses heat to kickstart tissue remodeling and collagen production in the vulvar and vaginal canal. This increase in collagen and tissue restores the vaginal mucosa and strengthens the muscle tone and surrounding ligaments of the vaginal canal (Image 1). The increase in muscle tone results in tightening of the supportive structures of the vulvovaginal complex, including along the base of the overlying bladder therefore improving vaginal and urinary symptoms, providing long-term relief. Symptomatic relief can last 12-18 months. |

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
WHO IS NOT A CANDIDATE?
It is important that your pap smear is up to date. The treating doctor will require a report stating the pelvic exam is normal and that there are no vulvovaginal lesions and no uterine prolapse.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The procedure is performed as outpatient in the office.
Treatment does not need analgesia/anesthesia.
Treatment time is quick, about 15 minutes - thats it! Patients can be in and out of the office within 30 minutes.
The procedure is performed by inserting a probe (or handpiece) into the vagina. The probe delivers thermal energy as it is gently applied to the vaginal canal. With a 360 degree rotation capability, the probe can quickly and effectively treat the entire vaginal canal. The treatment itself takes 10-15 minutes to complete.
AFTERCARE
Patients can return to normal daily activity right away. However vaginal rest is advised for the first 7 days. This includes avoiding coital sexual activity, tampons, saunas, baths, jacuzzi, swimming pools. It is also recommended to avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for 7 days. Detailed after care instructions will be provided following each procedure.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
Depending on the condition and the severity of the issues, a treatment series may be recommended. A series of 2 treatments is often recommended to successfully treat many issues. In more severe cases, a series of 3 to 5 treatments may be recommended. The physician can discuss your specific needs and recommend appropriate treatment at your consultation.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Results are commonly observed within days following the procedure. Tissue remodeling occurs over 3 months following each session. After 3 treatments over a 12-week period, tightening and continence effects can last 12-18 months. A "touchup" is recommended yearly in order to keep the tissue optimally healthy and avoid further aging issues.
While no guarantee can be made regarding individual results, patient satisfaction remains extremely high with this treatment.
