The skin on our neck often shows signs of aging sooner than other part of the body. There are many reasons for this, first of which is that the skin on our neck is thinner than other areas of our body, meaning it has a thinner layer of collagen. Additionally, it also sustains quite a bit of sun exposure, and without routine application of sunscreen, can show age spots over time.
Another important factor to blame is our cell phones, which have let to "tech neck" which is the development of horizontal wrinkles that develop along the middle of the neck as a result of repeatedly looking down at our phone, computer, tablet, and other devices. This habit is not restricted to tech devices alone and can happen with reading. Basically, anything that requires the constant flexion of your neck to look down, will contribute to increase skin folds in that area.
Treatment
Treating the skin on your neck is just as important as treating the skin on your face. This is an area you can see people's age as they get older. While creams are good for skin hydration, they will not be as effective or yield the same results as the below options.
Neuromodulators
Botox/Dysport can be used to help soften the muscles of the neck, preventing the creases from forming.
Filler
Can be injected into the horizontal lines and plump them, making them less noticeable.
CO2 Laser resurfacing
This is used to address lines in addition to wrinkles, discoloration, brown spots, scarring and more. It also increases collagen production, leading to skin tightening.
These procedures are often done in combination to produce the most optimal results. As with any procedure, best results are obtained with repeat sessions.
